Professional Profile

Patrick is a civil and environmental engineer with some forty years combined experience in those disciplines. He has over thirty years experience partnering with & advising corporate executives and senior managers on environmental management and consulting matters; including specific expertise in air quality management, environmental and health risk assessment, environmental auditing, greenhouse and pollutant release and transfer inventories, industrial pollution management and control and operational environmental management.

Patrick’s career includes experience in a wide range of environmental roles within a major international resources company and as an external environmental engineering consultant.

Patrick holds a Masters degree in Environmental Science from Murdoch University and a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) degree from the University of Western Australia. He is a Fellow of Engineers Australia and a member of the Environmental College Board for Engineers Australia. He has previously lectured as a guest lecturer at Murdoch University and Curtin University in Western Australia, and has a wide range of publications in the professional literature. He has participated in Engineers Australia activities including the various environmental committees and societies, on a voluntary basis for at least three decades.

Michelle North (nee de Souza) is a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) with over 16 years’ experience in the public and private sector. Michelle is listed on the Australian National Professional Engineers Register (NPER), which endorses that she is competent to be licensed in foreign jurisdictions and practice internationally.

Her skillset includes environmental impact assessment, preparation and execution of environmental management plans, obtaining environmental approvals for a diverse range of projects and managing multi-disciplinary teams to deliver large scale projects.

Michelle has been an elected Board member of the Environmental College of Engineers Australia since 2015 and was previously the Young Engineers Representative (2009-2011). She is actively involved with the delivery of the College’s strategic plan (particularly related to CPD) and is the editor of the College’s quarterly newsletter.

Michelle is the Chair of the WA Sustainable Engineering Society (SENG). She is also Engineers Australia’s national representative on Standards Australia’s committee to assist ISO with the development of its new international standard for Mine Closure, as well as EIANZ’s working group to develop a specialist Certified Environmental Practitioner discipline for land rehabilitation.

Michelle was a finalist for the 2007 and 2009 WA Young Engineer of the Year Award and the 2009 Chief Executive Women in Engineering Scholarship.
